Mexican Saltillo tile is a very porous low-fired clay tile. Saltillo tile with all its beauty as a rustic clay tile does require a sealer and at minimum a re-application of sealer every few years. Saltillo tile come in a variety of sizes, shapes and warm color variations. The natural appearance of a Saltillo tile can be modified with different types of sealers and stains. A natural look penetrating sealers can be applied to protect and leave the surface natural or more common, a film forming sealer can be applied to enhance the color and give a glossy clear protective coating from wear and staining. If one chooses to apply a stain to change the color of a Saltillo tile, a film forming sealer should be applied on top to provide a protective barrier. The first initial coating of a Saltillo tile will require many coats. For indoor use, a sacrificial coat of floor polish should be applied on top of the sealer to extend the life of the sealer. The Ole offers high gloss protection and beauty to unglazed Mexican Saltillo tile and other more porous terra cotta surfaces. The Ole sealer builds a film m ore reapidly requiring fewercoats. It has a durable high gloss finish that can be used indoors or outdoors and is UV resistant. For indoor use, a sacrificial coat of floor polish should be applied on top of the sealer to extend the life of the sealer.
